sorry to anyone planning on attending the Cologne or Rotterdam shows. We had to pull out of those for financial reasons and will be spending the weekend in Tillburg at the Roadburn Fest. Looking forward to partying and staying put for a few days watching killer bands and seeing so many friends!
Our flight over was suprizingly easy this time thanks to my new plush travel pillow, xanax and a few Grolsh courtesy of British Airways. We had to reschedule our flight due to the strike and had to change planes in Dallas but at least we got here on time. Our generous friend Brian met us at the hotel he booked for us right near London Bridge and we spent the day sightseeing, dodging rain and crawling the pubs.
Met my friend Lisa who is here visiting her boyfriend; so cool to see friends so far away from home!
Our plan was to stay up all day to get on local time.. which was a challenge for Chris and Tony since they didn't sleep much on the plane. It was lively night out for a Thursday. the Brits celebrate Easter weekend from Friday-Monday.
Our hotel was right next the the "Clink" museum, an ancient underground prison that now hosts loft style living and a burger joint upstairs. Don't think I would want to live there..
We are well rested and I think jet-lag free as we start the tour. The 11 seater van is comfy enough and we have a trailer for all our equipment and merchandise, which we hope to sell a ton of since our guarantees are so low. If anyone has advice on how to make money in a travelling rock band, please let me know.
Spent this past weekend in Wales and Ireland. There are no signs of Spring here yet; it's still very cold and damp. But seeing the land of my ancestry was something I have always wanted to do. The people were warm and welcoming and we partied pretty hard in Dublin. We didn't intend to get as sloshed as we did but as soon as we were finishing a drink, another would appear. Made lots of friends and can't wait to go back.
Belfast
There has been a lot of frustration on the business front, wouldn't want to bore anyone with those details but it's a real drag when people are coming up to me asking if I'm in Black Cobra since that is what's listed on the ticket. We've been confirmed for this tour since February and so far none of the promoters have been advanced any contracts. Not good.
Trying to not let this sour my mind.
Touring with EHG has it's challenges as well. It is our first van tour of Europe and we are packed in like sardines. The only time it gets quiet is when everyone is passed out drunk. Otherwise, it's mayhem and filling fast with trash. Lovely!

April 7, 2010
Leeds, England
ok, this country can feel really depressing. Is it the weather or maybe it's just me? The sun peers through for a minute just a few times a day..I can see how it spawned so many gloom bands, so much inspiration. The last 2 shows have been packed and really riled up for EHG. But just like last time in the UK with Mastodon, no one is buying much merch. Is everyone broke? Are they even in to us? It's making me wonder what the fuck I'm doing here while we go deeper and deeper in to debt. On top of that, spending much of the afternoon and evening in a disgusting club in Manchester that hasn't seen a mop in decades is a real treat. Every surface I touched was sticky with who knows what. The rug in the dressing room was wet, no where to put down our bags. fucking gross. Chris was super sick with a self induced Red Bull reaction. He's not supposed to drink those and he's been doing Jager bombs, and drinking that shit before every show. He's feeling better today, holding food and water down finally. Funny how some people have to teach themselves the same lessons in life over and over again. Myself included; I feel like I need to set a time frame for this band... I'm not cool with shlepping it like this for much longer. |

Pretty great posts so far, Meggie. I appreciate the honesty. I hated touring England.. same experience and feelings of pointlessness, followed by self-questioning and introspection. Ha. Hang in there. _________________ sound |

thanks for the support. I'm feeling better about things and trying to keep everything in perspective. There still seems to be a black cloud hanging over the tour as one person after another is getting sick with some sort of stomach flu or food poisoning.
I had a dream last night of touring with the Melvins in this big box van that had a living room and a pull out stage for performing. so cool.
Another dream of an owl with one wing up, exposing 2 full moons. next album cover?

we MAY play Pigs, but never 396. Tony hates that song now!
we had to pull out of the Copenhagen show today; here is the deal:
we have a cock sucker handling this tour who is a liar and thief. His name is Tony Boden and works for First Contact Agency.
We almost cancelled this tour; we were still waiting on fees and contracts up until the day we left. Some info wasn't given to us until yesterday (our second week in to the tour) There was to be NO PAY for some of the German and Denmark dates, and a meager amount for others. Some fees were fair and some promoters we convinced to raise the amount. Granted, we had just played some of these same cities with Mastodon and thought we could come back and capitalize on the groundwork we just had laid.
I hope this explains why we have been on and off and back on some shows. it's purely based on whether or not we can afford to make it.
Boden is continuing to lie to the promoters saying that we are to be payed out of EHG's money when this was never the case. We can not afford to play for free in a foreign country; their are too many expenses (van rental, hotels, gas, driver, ferries, etc...)
All in all, we are keeping everything in perspective and will not let any of this slow us down. Thanks to all who have come out to see us again in Europe and those we will see in the next few weeks.
Support your favorite traveling bands! BUY THEIR MERCHANDISE and RECORDINGS. This is the only way musicians can continue to do what they do.

Whoa, that royally sucks. Nice one on calling him out in public, too. Maybe future dealings with him may be avoided by the innocent.
Must be hard to follow a fantastic tour with a toilet bowl. |

Aw, that's really a bummer to hear, I was hoping to see you in Copenhagen yesterday. EHG killed it, and people were really into it.
That tour manager sounds like something out of a 70's rock and roll story, depressing to hear that the business can still be this way. Hope the rest of the tour goes ok for you. |
