I'm not happy about this, and I have some thoughts to share.
On the one hand, I (for example) have been really busy, and generally unplugging from the internet during my free time, and just haven't been as interested in posting. (I do read everyone's posts though) So I'm as much to blame as anyone. We have a small community here and it's only as good as the handful of regulars make it.
On the other hand, I've noticed that the KMBT forums really slow to a crawl when the hosts don't actively participate and maybe even guide the discussions. Scott's computer died, and he unfortunately isn't able to log on from work, for whatever reason. I've tried to troubleshoot with no luck. Eugene's posted here like 2 times total. Joe stops in from time to time, which is great... Dave and Ben contribute as well. I'm not aiming to turn this into a blame game. These are just observations.
ToD doesn't have much of a unique fanbase bringing activity to the forums. Most of their individual show forums have no real activity at all. I'm not one to tell them how to run their site, but they could probably use a better promotional effort ... and maybe a better advertising point than just "random dudes you never heard of playing underground metal"
One of the ideas I've had for both stations is to eliminate the individual show forums. This would consolidate posts into two active forums, as opposed to 10 barely-breathing ones on life support. Your thoughts?
These are my unsolicited thoughts in venting form.

That's probably a good idea. The 'KMBT general' and 'Bullshit' forums blur together anyway, and the few threads about specific shows wouldn't take up much space if all the sub-forums were merged. In case anyone wants to make a topic relating to a specific show, they can put the shows initials in front of the topic title or something similar.
I need to post a little more, I read everything as well, but usually forget to answer. A good community here, would hate to see it go. No trolls yet, either. |

I think this is mostly true. This host participates and guides/provokes some discussion. To any avail? Not sure...

For organization sake, this consolidates well, sure, but at the same time it may be turning a filing cabinet into a simply a box of papers. I don't think this will encourage (or discourage) people from participating more, though.
I've noticed that, perhaps coincidentally, ever since Return to Zero slowed to a halt, after a while ripple effects hit TBV. Maybe this is not cause-effect, just something I noticed. I do strongly believe, though, that there are plenty of people on this forum who have come to live here as members (family?) and not simply as Neurosis fans, etc. Does that make sense?
My synopsis: Don't know what has caused the lull in participation.
There's my two cents.
Thanks, Bro Shark, for bringing this up. I know many have been thinking about this. It's important. |

I feel you and agree for the most part on everything you stated. I try to get new people and the ones we have currently involved on a weekly basis. I love the TBV family, and am always amazed at the intelligent and thought out responses we do get when they come. This is honestly the first forum I have ever really dedicated myself to, so I have nothing to compare it to. I was a member of the stoner rock forum for a while, but if you weren't there from day one you kinda got ignored.
I agree that hosts need to get more involved, but it is very hard to find the time, and not knowing everyone it's hard to get the ball rolling.
I can see how it may be overwhelming to have so many different topics and areas to search, maybe we can trim down the less active areas. I am open to any suggestions or changes that makes the community more active.
How many registered members do we have, and how many post on a weekly/monthly basis?
Anyway to sum it up I agree, but don't have the knowledge on forums to know how to proceed.
Sincerely,
-"random dude you never heard of playing underground metal"

Thanks for your comments, folks. I'm thinking about collapsing the KMBT and TOD forums into a single section for each. Kinda the way it was back on the old site. There's just not enough activity lately to justify having so many subforums. Let me know if you have any objections. I'll wait a week or so before doing this. _________________ sound |

It looks like the forums are in a box in the middle of the screen now that never changes dimension... unless its always been that way and I'm just now noticing |
